3 things to look for when choosing window furnishings for a childs bedroom

A child's room can be one of the most fun to style – but also the most challenging. Children's rooms typically house all kinds of mis-matched toys, books and sports gear, and so need to be highly functional places – as well as calm, peaceful sanctuaries. Children are also naturally busy and curious, and so both safety and durability need to stay top of mind, particularly for younger children.

When it comes to styling a child's bedroom, window furnishings play a very important role. Here are three things to focus on:

Safety – avoid hanging cords, loop chains or wires

In a child's bedroom, things like unrestrained cords, loop chains and wires (which you'll find on most commercial window coverings) can be potential hazards. This is particularly the case if the windows can be easily reached – for instance, when a child stands or sits on their bed.

It's why Luxaflex works closely with relevant industry bodies, as well as the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), to ensure that our products always adhere to the latest safety requirements. We are also continuously developing new products to help reduce the risk of accidents.

It's also why, when it comes to fitting out a child's bedroom, our consultants often recommend the Luxaflex® Modern Roman Shade.

Rather than using cords, the Luxaflex® Modern Roman Shades range offers a range of operating systems, including UltraGlide®, EasyRise, LiteRise and PowerView®. None of these operating systems have any exposed cords which, as well as elevating safety, gives them a very clean and discreet look that's ideal for a child's bedroom.

Light flow – embracing natural light

Anyone with children, of any age, knows the vital importance of them having quality sleep. As such, it's important to choose window furnishings that can be highly flexible – letting enough daylight in when children want to play or relax in their room, and keeping it out when it's time for sleep.

The Luxaflex® Modern Roman Shades range is an ideal option when it comes to controlling the amount of light that enters the bedroom. They have a unique rolling-style design, where the shade neatly rolls up into the headrail to provide an unobstructed outside view during daytime hours. You can also use one of the innovative operating systems to control the level of light and privacy. Raise the shade to maximise natural sunlight, or completely lower it for privacy and room darkening.

These shades also come in a range of fabrics, and in three opacities, depending on how much light you want to let in:

  • Sheer – softly filters sunlight and offers a view through the window, whilst maintaining a discreet level of privacy.
  • Translucent - creates a soft, ambient light by filtering harsh light and dispersing it evenly throughout the room, whilst still providing daytime privacy.
  • Room-Darkening - provides maximum light and privacy control, and is perfect for bedrooms, as well as media rooms and home theatres.

Durability and ease of maintenance

Another key consideration for a busy and well-used child's bedroom is, of course, durability.

All Luxaflex® Modern Roman Shades are durable, low maintenance, and easy to clean - made from finely crafted 100% polyester fabrics. They also come in a wide range of fabrics, depending on the mood or style you're going for.
